Sounds of the Neighborhood

While walking around Riverwest, I noticed a particular sound that seemed to be on every block. The sound of a dog barking. However, I did not just want a dog's bark. In this clip, there are the sounds of someone shovelling. I did not know where he was though. Also, I noticed that I happened to pick up a conversation between two neighbors; this happened to be accidental. Don't let the dog scare you too much it's only sound.
The Suprising Success of a Van

While walking down Booth street, I noticed that a woman had just left her house. I noticed that she was walking towards her car, so I ran across the street to record and see how it would turn out. Honestly, I did not think that a shabby blue van would be able to get out as easily as she did. I really thought I was going to get the familiar sounds of a car stuck in the snow, I was wrong.

Traffic On North Avenue

As I was walking down Bremen street onto North, I figured that it was about time to finally record the sounds of automobiles. There was an island that I attempted to stand at to record from, but there was a considerable amount of ice to stand on. So, I recorded on the sidewalk near the curve. Notice the sound of water splashing, as the cars drive through a nearby puddle. Click here to listen.
Wind Chimes

While walking the opposite side of Bremen street. I slowly heard the sounds of an approaching wind chime. I stood in front of the house and waited for the wind chime to give me the epitomy of quality sound. As luck would have it, there was a little bit of a breeze that day. Before I knew it, that wind chime was spinning and I was recording. Notice the sounds of an airplane in the background and a car that almost impeded my process.
Sounds of Laundry Exhaust Pipe

When I came walking out of Riverside park on a nice, past a large office building and two tennis courts, I crossed the street and stopped to listen for anything particular and enjoy the first nice Saturday afternoon in February. I noticed that there seemed to be a loud noise that my mic was picking up. I slowly began scanning for the noise and noticed it was an exhaust chute for laundry. Notice, that I manage to catch it right before it finishes.

Drift 1 Strategy
In order to minimize the number of distractions and to focus on my walk, I chose to walk two separate rectangles. The first rectangle I would simply walk over the bridge and take a right at one of the first streets I saw. However, there were several dead ends that required me to take an unexpected turn. I would then walk to North St. and go back over the bridge and walk back to my starting point. The second rectangle was created by walking the opposite side of Bremen street and following a rectangular route with North avenue and Booth street. By doing this, I was able to listen to several unnoticed sounds that I had not heard on the opposite side of Bremen street.
